We are seeking an experienced Project Manager who understands the demands of complex commercial construction, with particular interest in candidates who have successfully managed projects in healthcare, education, and other institutional environments. Experience with healthcare construction is especially valuable, including renovation or construction performed in active, occupied, or controlled medical environments where safety, infection-control considerations, communication, phasing, and disruption avoidance are critical. The Opportunity

The Project Manager leads assigned construction projects from start to finish and guides the project team toward successful completion. This position is responsible for project start-up, contracts, communication, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, financial management, risk mitigation, quality, closeout, and client satisfaction. 

The successful candidate will effectively manage each phase of the construction process, including pre-bid, contract award, preconstruction, construction, and project completion, with a consistent focus on safety, quality, schedule, profitability, and client expectations. 

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Bid and Preconstruction

• Collaborate with Wurster’s estimating team and help develop schedules for subcontractor participation.
• Prepare clear and complete scopes of work for proposals and eventual contracts.
• Participate in project interviews and assist with estimate preparation.
• Prepare for and actively participate in project hand-off meetings.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules that incorporate critical-path activities, submittal deadlines, permitting, owner-furnished items, interior packages, major subcontractor components, and other key milestones.
• Review subcontractor and supplier bids for scope compliance.
• Interview, select, notify, and confirm subcontractors and suppliers.
• Review owner and architect contracts to confirm that drawings, specifications, proposals, and contract requirements are properly aligned.
• Prepare client contracts, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and necessary exhibits.
• Schedule and facilitate project kick-off meetings with subcontractors, suppliers, safety consultants, and Wurster team members.
• Coordinate meetings with owners, municipalities, and other project stakeholders to establish expectations.
• Oversee jobsite start-up, including trailers, temporary utilities, permits, emergency plans, and related requirements.
• Update the project schedule biweekly while maintaining the original master schedule and a detailed as-built schedule. 

Construction Management

• Manage project schedules, subcontractors, and general conditions to achieve safety, quality, schedule, and profitability goals.
• Lead regular progress meetings and visit jobsites to verify progress firsthand.
• Prepare for and actively participate in project financial and over/under meetings.
• Verify that timecards and project phasing information are accurate and submitted promptly for job-cost reporting.
• Proactively prepare, issue, document, and track RFIs, change events, and other project information.
• Process project billings accurately and on time.
• Communicate changes affecting project budgets, contracts, and job costs to the accounting team.
• Ensure drawing revisions and project changes are properly documented and communicated to field personnel.
• Address project challenges promptly and manage conflicts constructively.
• Review superintendent daily reports and confirm that required project photographs and documentation are maintained in the company’s project management software (Procore).
• Maintain project financial controls and provide detailed reviews in preparation for monthly work-in-progress meetings.
• Maintain accurate and current project logs.
• Complete weekly safety and quality reviews and discuss findings with the project team. 

Project Closeout

• Work closely with the Superintendent to complete punch-list work within established timeframes and to the satisfaction of the owner and architect.
• Maintain Wurster’s quality standards throughout construction by continuously reviewing and “punching” each trade’s work.
• Coordinate the transfer of utilities to the owner and the removal of temporary services, permits, and equipment.
• Ensure operations and maintenance manuals are complete, organized, and reflective of the quality delivered by Wurster.
• Complete required project marketing information.
• Coordinate warranty follow-up.
• Identify mentoring, training, and professional-development opportunities for Superintendents and Project Engineers assigned to the project. 

Leadership and Communication

• Lead productive meetings with owners, architects, subcontractors, and project partners.
• Ensure meetings remain focused on progress, open issues, decisions, responsibilities, deadlines, and next steps.
• Prepare or assign complete and accurate meeting minutes and ensure their timely distribution.
• Build strong working relationships with project Superintendents through frequent communication, collaborative problem-solving, and proactive support.
• Provide courteous, professional service and consistently represent Wurster Construction in a positive manner.
• Participate in required company programs and training.
• Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer and/or Senior Project Manager. 

What You Bring

• At least five years of related experience, preferably in commercial or healthcare construction.
• A bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, business, or a related field is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, sketches, contracts, and other project documentation.
• Strong understanding of owner contract provisions, financial contracts, risk management, construction methods, building techniques, and industry terminology.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, requests, schedules, and deadlines.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Initiative, personal accountability, and the ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
• A proactive approach to identifying risks, communicating concerns, and resolving problems before they affect the project.
• Familiarity with OSHA requirements, commercial construction safety practices, and applicable building codes.
• Financial awareness, including job costing, billings, forecasting, WIP reporting, budgets, contracts, and change management.
• Effective leadership, supervision, coaching, mentoring, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, and the ability to learn construction-specific project management software.
• A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet company safety-training requirements. 

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

This position requires regular travel between the home office and construction sites. The Project Manager must be able to work in office and active construction environments, including walking jobsites, bending, stooping, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds.

Jobsite conditions may include indoor and outdoor work, noise, dust, temperature variations, unfinished structures, temporary trailers, and proximity to construction equipment. Appropriate personal protective equipment is required. Some healthcare projects may be performed in controlled medical environments.
